Social Causes

Environmental Protection

As an environmentalist, she has been doing various awareness programs about water conservation, segregation and composting. She was instrumental in ensuring the plastic ban in Karnataka by working closely with citizens, Resident Welfare Associations, BBMP officials and elected representatives.

Women Empowerment

Being a woman entrepreneur herself, Sowmya understands the discrimination women face in India. She wants to empower women to grow in every field by providing them skills training, jobs and government loans to start small and medium businesses.

Participative Politics

Sowmya believes strongly believes that democracy is “of the people, by the people, and for the people”. She wants to create an efficient feedback system between the people and the MLA so the voice of the people is heard.

India has world’s largest youth population. This large youth population can make India the next super power. But to achieve this, we need to provide them employment.  Sowmya plans to provide skills training to all young people and get them employed.

Education is an important tool for every strata of society, particularly for the poor, to get access to employment and improve their lifestyle. Sowmya wants to achieve this bringing government schools at par with private schools and giving quality education to underprivileged kids.

Health Care

A big portion of Indian society does not get access to basic healthcare. Sowmya plans to improve government hospitals and increase their capacity to serve more people in need. Also, she wants to ensure government schemes reach the people of Jayanagar.
